Leadership
TransitionOverview.
As leaders transition, their organizations assume a "grace period" during which
the new leader absorbs the culture of his or her new "domain" before any
significant changes are made. This period may take a few days or last
upwards to six months depending on the complexity of the organization.
Routine business continues largely as it was before the transition, but the
natural phenomenon of "hesitation" begins to burden the organization.
People wonder what changes will be made and how it might impact them and their
work. Decisions are delayed while work groups try to "read" the new boss.
As some point events will unfold to bring the organization back to a new normal
- but it will not be the same and perhaps not even similar to the old normal.
