Since 1992 numerous people have expressed an interest in "joining" our firm. Many have been discouraged immediately because we do not offer traditional employment. Our growth plans call for steady expansion from a small but strong core group organized in Hampton Roads, Virginia. There are five characteristics that mark our entry program that must be considered carefully by those interested:
Passive Attraction. We do not pursue potential employees. Everyone who has been successful in joining our group has approached us and committed at least 12 months to the process.
Client-based Channel. Our clients are often the best judge of a potential employee's value to our organization. During the entry process our client's judgements play an important pivotal role in our final decision to add someone to our group.
Entrepreneurial Spirit. We are looking for people who would be successful in their own right, but can excel among peers who have the passion and spirit to succeed.
Team Chemistry. Everyone who joins our firm must have the ability to attain and sustain a productive and often synergistic relationship with a tight team of client service oriented consultants and support personnel that consistently make high yield Quality-of-Worklife happen in the face of overwhelming odds to the contrary. Our clients count on it, and we count on each other to make it happen. We look for associates who are clean of personal issues and axes to grind, who have clear channels of involvement with a strong sense of the "here-and-now," an ability to adapt that includes an attitude of "starting over" if necessary, and have a clear empathy with people in organizations working within a painful culture. A pre-requisite for further exploration is attendance at our quarterly StreamLearning sessions.
Self-directed Learning. We have a learning track that is mentor-aided, but relies on each individual to quench a thirst for organizational wisdom. We have the resources to help, but cannot supply the motivation -- that must come with the candidate.
