The ODI

at Hampton Harbor, Virginia

The ODI Center at Hampton Harbor is unique in the Hampton Roads
Region. It is the only known facility of its kind -- built by organization developers
to do organization development work exclusively. The Center serves
organizations by providing an experience where tough work-related topics can be dealt
with productively, in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Center has within
it the following spaces dedicated to organizational learning and collaborative problem
solving characteristic of the next millennium, but operating now as the vanguard
for deep cultural realignment work:
Library. Our conference room is embedded within the Library. We've taken
great care to provide our clients and our consultants with the finest and latest
publications in the organization development and management sciences. Many of our
works have been collected from the "greats" of the industry we serve.
Harbor View. Our largest room can accommodate 100 people, but normally
is used for groups of about 35 to 50. The room can be divided into two large rooms
by a folding partition. Each area, when divided, would still have its own closed
circuit television station, and full direct thirty foot view of Hampton Harbor -
just 20 feet across the antique brick sidewalk that stretches for miles throughout
the downtown Hampton district. The room also contains a 400 year timeline displaying
many of the greatest culture-shifting events or conditions that have framed our way
of life.
The Trophy Cafe. Wide double doors open from the Harbor View room to a
spacious cafe where a full range of refreshments are always available to our guests
without charge. Over thirty guests can use the cafe at one time during breaks, lunch,
or during break-out sessions. Many participants are encouraged to come early, and
stay late to take full advantage of this unique atmosphere. Celebrity photographs
with authenticated autographs provide great stimulation for story telling -- From
Alan Shepard, to Jimmy Stewart, and many more! Also highlighted are ODI Awards and
memorabilia.
Guest Kitchen. Like anyones home, our full service kitchen also accommodates
small gatherings. People seem to be drawn to the kitchen where a home-style environment
prevails. Guests are invited to use our kitchen facilities to store snacks they may
prefer to bring, or medications that may require refrigeration, when necessary.
The Cultural Realignment Coaching Lab. Our Coaching Lab is available to
clients on a regular basis. Small groups are able to view composite survey and inventory
results and forecast cultural shifts based on known factors. There is no more powerful
tool for finding and solving cultural dilemmas regardless of complexity, and regardless
of industry. The lab is also available to clients in their own facilities -- but
work to prepare for this 21st Century innovation is not yet complete.
We just don't know of any other dedicated organization development, retreat,
or conference facility in the Hampton Roads Region that will treat its guests to
a really dry experience on a rainy day. Our guests can park under cover (without
charge). The elevator provides lift assistance from any parking level to the ground
floor. Guests can even enter our facility without returning outdoors in inclement
weather if they desire. On fair weather days, they will definitely prefer the short
walk along picturesque walks adjacent the Hampton harbor docks. Beginning in 1999,
guests can even take the ferry from downtown Norfolk right to our building.
Once
inside, the furnishings are posh, lighting easy to work under, wall coverings designed
to be soothing, technology high, and comfort impeccable. Air conditioning and heating
are upgraded for comfort, restrooms are clean and spacious, water is distilled and
cold (or hot for those who prefer). Carpets are deep in case our games require sitting
on the floor, music is continuous on all breaks and selections are made to cater
to the tastes of our guests.
Our professional facilitation teams are the envy
of professionals across the Hampton Roads Region. And the support for our events
is meticulous -- we've yet to ignore the desires of our clients any reasonable request.
Food and beverage is normally included in the fees, but for those desiring to select
their own fare, the downtown Hampton area has ample opportunity.
Some of our
building decision were driven by the ADA, but we always went a step further than
requirements demanded. Our facility is friendly to everyone who enters it, and if
we find ways to improve our ability to add comfort for our guests, we'll do it quickly
and without hesitation.
Our sessions are active -- there's plenty of opportunity
to learn in ways that adults prefer to learn. We play games with a learning objective
-- fun is an integral part of every event we produce. Support includes plenty of
photographs of guests learning and playing.
Our out-of-town guests are also
treated to preferred room rates at the Radisson Hotel, just steps from our front
door.
Our guests always (almost always) have a good word for the experience
they've had in our care.
Our Center is linked by ethernet to assure all computer terminals
are efficient.
Dedicated phone lines assure Fax and Internet connections
when needed.
Closed circuit television enables burning CDs on-the-spot. Participants
can actually take home a CD of selected parts of the event they attended. In fact,
we can even link by Internet to remote client locations for those who can't attend
for some reason.
Charts can be scanned and available on our website by the
next business day if needed.
All our printing capabilities are full color
at all computers, our copiers are color or black, and our high-speed, on-site printing
press capability is multicolor as well.
The Center one-of-a-kind
Cultural Realignment Coaching Lab (CRCL - pronounced "circle") graphically
depicts culture deep inside an organization, and can even be used to predict future
capabilities with amazing reliability.
Our computers link with large 36 inch
television monitors in each of the Harbor View rooms.
The opening of our Hampton Center is an essential step in a plan
that spans the seventeen years, and has a history that began in 1985. We've worked
hard to launch this National expansion effort from Hampton Roads, where many great
ideas have been born and paid global dividends for humanity. We believe that ODI
is developing a cornerstone Technology in a revolution that will change the fabric
of American work culture. We're proud to be a part of that effort, and invite you
to be a part of it too!
We hope to see you at the Center at
Hampton Harbor soon.
